5 Chaise Lounge Under $500

Now that I have my inspiration down for our bonus room makeover, one of the elements I am most excited to add is a pair of side by side chaise lounges.

Check out how nice and cozy and comfy this looks...

Just imagine the amazing movie watching that can happen in this space...

Yup, double chaise lounge is the way forward. But, you know, double the chaise = double the price! Time to find some affordable options and lucky for you - I'm willing to share my findings!

Spoiler alert...I've already decided on my favorite and made a purchase. Sadly, I learned the hard way that the massive box didn't fit in my car, I'll be resorting to old fashioned delivery for the mate. Ugh, I'll miss the lack of instant gratification.

The good news is that we're getting closer to finishing the space and closer to sharing it with you!

Bonus Room: Design Plan and Moodboard

Ok, so ... I'm excited.

After pouring over all my inspiration pictures I've come up with a plan for our bonus room.

Here's the plan:

1. Cozy up the space by adding a vintage patterned rug, hanging drapery and incorporating lots of fun textural elements.

2. Increase seating by adding in a chaise or two (um, budgets!), beanbags and occasional chairs to the existing dining table. Might even bring back the kid chairs, TBD.

3. Shed a little extra light on the space by incorporating paper lanterns.

4. Add some much needed greenery to give it a true lived in feel.

5. Obviously already touched on the textural elements, but it's worth repeating, there will be loads of textural pillows and throws.

I'm so excited - have I mentioned that? I've already started moving toys, actually using the toy closet (what? craziness!), and sourcing items. I can't wait to get started and show you what I've accomplished so far.

I'm really hoping this is the change our family needs to actually use this space. Yeah!

Next Up...

Ok, so here's the thing - every year when we put the Christmas decorations away (which are stored in our attic, accessed via the bonus room) I am drawn into what my husband refers to as "our annual bonus room reorganization". Hmmm...that does't sound good.

I just can't seem to figure this room out! It is the biggest room in our home (and possibly the most awkward with half walls, dormer windows, and alcoves) and I want to utilize every inch. For all of us. That means play space for the kids and rec space for the adults. As a result, this space has seen a lot of changes over the last 3 years...

Our first go around had mostly toys, a bit of seating and a home office in the corner.

Then we bought an IKEA fold out couch (shockingly, just after Christmas 2 years ago) and switched out the rugs. The couch made its way from the big alcove in front of the double windows...

to the far corner (sorry not proof of that one!), to the center of the room.

Somewhere along the line we moved the home office to the other alcove too. I mean, things were happening!

But, yet, it never felt right.

How is it possible that I haven't figured this space out? It's beyond my comprehension.

Stage 4 - how it looks today

Stage 4 - how it looks today

Over the course of the last year or so, we've moved the furniture again and finally believe the couch to be in the best possible spot - back in the far corner (figures) - and the TV has found it's long term home, too. All good things, but still not feeling finished...ugh!

Just when you think there can't possibly be any more changes, we decided that the seldom used home office should really be in our bedroom. Truthfully, it shouldn't be anywhere because no one uses it, but we love the desk and can't bare to part with it...so in our bedroom it has landed. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet!

Of course all these changes have only made me feel like it's time to finally, once and for all, finish off this space. So I've been pinning my little heart out and this is your favorite image thus far...

Hard to believe this is even a bonus room - designed by Charlotte's own Amy Vermillion - this space looks as if if could be a spa or even a master retreat. I don't blame you for loving it! What's not to love?!?!

I have lots to think about! But mostly I'm excited (and hopeful) to finally sort out this space, incorporate it into our daily use, and make it as whole-family friendly as possible.

Bonus Bath Reveal

It's finally here, the first reveal of 2017 (who else still finds it weird that it's 2017!?!?), the bonus room bath. A couple of teaser images popped up on Instagram before the holidays, this one was a real race to the finish line before our guests arrived, but the time has finally come to share the finished space. So excited!

Much like the girls bath, we gave this room a serious facelift while keeping the basics of the space the same. The tile floors, shower and vanity remain while the walls, counters, lights, mirror and fixtures got an upgrade. Take a look at the before to refresh your memory...

Let's just take a minute and discuss this faucet. It's from Home Depot - yes, you read that right. Home Depot people. It wasn't exactly a bargain but it wasn't a bank breaker either - especially for a brass bridge faucet. And let's face it, it completely makes the space.

And then there's the light. You may recall that this is the style I wanted for our powder room, but we worried it wouldn't work as the only light source for that space, so we nixed it. So glad we did because it works so much better in this space. The white walls really show it off!

If you were surprised to find out the faucet was from Home Depot wait until you hear where I found the light....Amazon. Prime, baby, for under $40. That's right.

It's all about the details, right? Some of my faves from this space were pulled from other parts of our house - the vintage turkish rug, "antiqued" plaster planter, striped turkish towel, antique pine step stool and ikea basket.

We also sprayed an old mirror and chair to incorporate into the bath. Yup, this was a true bargain design project.

Beyond everything I LOVE about this space, design wise, I'm most smitten with our collection of black and white photos from our time spent overseas. A lot of these have been framed for years and dotted throughout our home, but I printed and framed a lot more to finish out the design and I love having them all in one space, together. Is it weird that I want to hang out in our bonus room bath? Or that I want other people to hang out in there? Probably.

So, that's it - the bonus room bath for your viewing pleasure. Do me a favor, next time you come over, ask for a tour of the space and check out all the details yourself - these pictures really don't do it justice. Promise? Cool.

As you probably could guess the newly updated bath has inspired yet another project in our house...any ideas? I'll be back next week with all the details.

Good-bye 2016, Hello 2017

I may be a little late to the "sum up the previous year" game, but I'm doing it nonetheless. To be fair, I did start this post and make the picture montage before New Years Eve,  but with 2 weeks straight of house guests, I'm just getting to it now - that's just how it goes sometimes. Life.

2016 was a great year. We were so lucky to work on a variety of client projects...including these four rooms in one home. Spoiler alert: We've recently made some changes to one of these spaces! More details to come...

We also completed this lovely master bedroom - the quickest, most motivated client I've worked with to date!

Curating this English pub space could be one of my favorite projects to date...

This sitting room makeover was also one of my favorite projects of 2016 - featuring an incredible rug from HomeGoods - the find of the century!

There were many more projects over the course of the year, some that were featured on the blog and some not, but all of them special to me in their own way. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone that invited me into their home and trusted me to create a space they would love. I am forever grateful.

In addition to our many client projects, we also tackled a variety of projects on our own home - a front of the house makeover including new paint, front door and lighting (I haven't gotten around to sharing the lighting, just more to look forward to) as well as new landscaping and walking path!

And two updated baths...

We even managed to finish off a refresh of our bonus room bath just before the holidays - can't wait to share all the details with you in an upcoming post. (Sneak peek in the first picture!)

Yes, it's been a good year!

In fact, 2017 has some pretty big shoes to fill. It's going to be a big year, full of many milestones including 40th birthdays and 15 year wedding anniversaries. We have several client projects in the works already! And I recently accepted a position at a local design boutique, where I'll be submerging myself in our design scene even more. Don't worry, though, I'll still be taking on new clients :)

Yup, it's shaping up to be a good year and I'm excited to jump right in and get it started!

Thank you to everyone...family, friends, supporters and clients for sticking with me throughout 2016 and here's to a great 2017!
