Bonus Room Reveal

It's reveal day! Bonus room reveal day, that is. I'm so excited to share this newly revamped space with you. Not only is it much easier to look at, but it's so much more functional now. In fact, we've used this space more since we finished the makeover than we have in the last 3 years combined. I'll take that as a measure of success!

Ok, here we go...welcome to the new bonus room.

Strikingly similar to our original inspiration moodboard, wouldn't you say?

I know you're thinking, "what happened to all the toys?"

True, we did edit. A lot. But, we also just made better use of the space. The biggest change in terms of storage is the newly curtained alcove which doubles as a stage for shows as well as hidden storage for all the dress up and other show related malarky.

The other "most loved" items ( like crafts, stickers, food/tea party/restaurant stuff ) are now in a larger bookcase, front and center, for easy access.

Of course, we still have the toy closet at the far end of the bonus room. I didn't get rid of everything! Despite my best efforts :)

Once the storage and toy situation was under control, we were able to add in more seating and generally cozy up the space. Making the whole room a much more family friendly destination.

We embraced the gold vinyl dot decals that have been an accent in the space for several years and dotted the rest of the walls, too. I even let the kids go wild with decals in their curtained alcove, I'm a nice Mom like that.

The table, which now occupies one of the alcoves, is paired with navy metal chairs and a hanging paper lantern, offering the perfect spot for lego building, coloring and crafting. Lighting has always been an issue in the bonus room, the two new lanterns have really transformed the mood in this space.

In terms of coziness, you can't beat a huge, plush, patterned rug. Lucky for me, this rug has been in my collection for awhile. I never found just the right spot for it, until now.

I can't believe I made it this far in the post without talking about my double chaise situation. Love them. So happy and such a comfy, cozy spot for movie watching. Best decision, ever.

A couple last elements that I have to mention - the curtains, of course the fleecy bean bags, and all the wonderfully cozy and cuddly textiles.

What kind of a reveal post would this be without a flashback to where we started.

My how far we've come...

I think it's safe to say we're all in love with the newly revamped space.

Recent Projects

It's been awhile since I've shared progress on some recent project - so today's the day! Aren't you lucky!

This moodboard is the inspiration for a front sitting room in a historic home here in Charlotte. Working with the homeowners existing navy sofa, gray wing chairs and love for antique industrial style we've reworked the layout to maximize seating while making the most out of a somewhat awkward (yet very charming) space. Almost all the main pieces are in place now, just awaiting finishing touches. Loving how this space is coming together to create a functional, cozy entrance to their home.

This moodboard is the inspiration for a family room space in the same historic home. With both pets and children in mind, we've chosen durable items that can stand a bit of use like warm weathered leather, slipcovered furniture and highly patterned rugs. Personally, I love combining antique or vintage textiles with more modern elements to create a layered room. This space is in the very beginning stages, now I can't wait to see how it all comes together.

This moodboard is the inspiration for a beautiful formal dining room filled with family heirloom furniture for a repeat client. In an effort to lighten, brighten, and modernize the existing dining set we've gone with a neutral yet statement making rug and modern art. I love the juxtaposition of the traditional and modern elements. This space is, also, nearing completion - I'm hoping I'll be able to share the final images with you soon.

The final project we're sharing today is another front sitting room from the same house as above. This particular space is used as a music room/secondary TV watching/library and all around family space. The client loves and takes inspiration from sea-inspired colors, instead of reinventing the wheel we've re-imagined some similar concepts from their family room (which we completed last year). The original plan included similar toned upholster furniture in velvet and linen to offset their existing leather chair. This space is still very much a work in progress, I'm excited to see it evolve.

I hope you've enjoyed this little peak behind the scenes of our design process.

Big Birthday Weekend

I couldn't let my husband's 40th birthday pass by without documenting it here on the blog - after all, he has always been and will always be the biggest supporter of the blog! Besides being a constant rock to me and my small business, he's the best husband around! So, naturally I had to go big for his big birthday.

Starting with a very subtle surprise birthday message in our front yard curtesy of Happy Sign Surprise.

We also hosted a small celebration/ping pong tournament in our backyard for some of his closest friends. We rented the ping pong tables through Thunderdome Racing and borrowed all the extra heaters we could find. The chilly weekend didn't put a damper on the festivities!

Of course, no 40th birthday party is complete without a new outfit. T-shirt curtesy of Vistaprint.

The majority of the food was catered by Vic the Chili Man - best hotdogs in Charlotte - you can find his cart uptown most days...but if you ask nice, he might bring it to your house! We loved all of his creations. Plus, the cart was really cool.

At John's request we made guacamole, truffled popcorn , winter slaw and finished off the night with a custom s'more bar inspired by The Kitchn.

I have to say it was a pretty perfect evening of good friends coming together to celebrate a pretty good guy! Ok, he's better than pretty good...

After a full day of recovery, we celebrated with a homemade Carrot Cake for Two (that I actually doubled to serve 4, but now we have leftovers! Backfire.)

After the jam packed weekend and the time change, we're all struggling this Monday morning - but it was worth it! Happy Birthday to my amazing husband! Love you.

A New Master Bedroom {Client Work}

Yeah, it's reveal day! By far my most favorite days. Especially when it's a really big transformation like today's Master Bedroom project.

A simply stunning and elegant bedroom transformation.

The before...we've come a long way, baby!

The original inspiration...

And the after...

Featuring new upholstered bed and bedding, side tables, lighting, window treatments, seating area and accessories.

The intimate seating area offers a quiet spot to curl up with a good book or take in the views of the wooded surroundings. The feminine floral chairs provide a nice balance to the more masculine navy upholstered bed.

His side with room for plenty of space for books and subtle storage.

Their traditional dresser was shown a little love and style makeover by pairing it with a new contemporary metallic mirror, beautiful storage and living greenery. Always a must in the bedroom, in my opinion!

 Before and After

Before and After

I'm in love with how this room came together. The balance of masculine and feminine styles, as well as traditional and contemporary, work with each other to create a space that suites both of their likes and needs. It's not too fussy, but not too stark. A wonderful compromise.

Such a fun project to work on. Thanks to the Valentine Family for inviting me into your home!

In the News...2

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! We didn't plan much, just a relaxing weekend at home enjoying the lovely Spring-like temperatures. And then, the stars aligned and this happened....

What the what?

Yes, we had been toying with the idea of getting a dog at some point. Key word being, DOG. Not puppy. Some of us wanted this to happen a bit more than others. Some of us just wanted our other babies to be in kindergarten first...but alas I saw this cute face, she met so many of my seemingly hard to come by criteria and she was available this weekend. No waiting, no time for second guessing. I caved, big time.

Next thing I know we're hitting the road on a 4 hour road trip to pick up this sweet girl! In just two short days, our lives have been forever changed by this face.

Not that you can blame us, surely. I mean, just look at this fur ball!

And lucky for her, she has a nearly completed bonus room to now call her own. Seriously, we are this close and I can't wait to share all the details with you....probably including a photo bomb or two by this little lady.

Welcome to the family, Annie. Looking forward to finding our new norm with you!
